As announced on March 23 2017, the US FDA has granted accelerated approved of avelumab for the treatment of adults and pediatric patients 12 years and older with metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC). This indication was approved under accelerated approval based on tumor response and duration of response. Continued approval for this indication may be contingent upon verification and description of clinical benefit in confirmatory trials. Avelumab has not yet been approved for metastatic MCC outside of the US.
